Welcome to NSO 39th Season 2004–2005

Welcome to the Newton Symphony’s 39th Season.

The Newton Symphony continues to grow and to establish itself as one the best orchestras in the Greater Boston area. Our concerts will feature composers that you have requested such as Dvorak, Beethoven, Verdi and Tchaikovsky as well as unusual works by Barber, Walton and Janacek.

In addition we are thrilled to feature prize winning soloists such as pianist Richard Einhorn and violinist Aiman Musakhodzhaeva. The Lasker Young Soloist Competition was expanded last year to include three different age categories giving the opportunity for more talented young people to appear as soloists with the NSO in our popular Family Concert on February 12, 2005.

We are continuing our concert opera offering by performing Verdi’s Rigoletto featuring New York City Opera baritone Michael Corvino in the title role and tenor Drew Slatton as the Duke of Mantua as well as the Boston-based soprano Meredith Hansen-Skinner as Gilda.

Our season will close with Beethoven’s stirring Symphony No. 9 featuring soloists Margaret O’Keefe, Pamela Dellal, Vince Wolfsteiner and Philip Candilis. Chorus pro Musica will provide the choral forces in a performance which will wet your appetites for next year’s 40 th Season.

I hope that you will try to attend all of our programs this season as well as the free pre-concert talks featuring Bill Miranda, Steven Ledbetter and me. Of course, each concert will be followed by a reception in which you can have the opportunity to meet me, the orchestra members and our soloists.
