January Concert Guest Artist: David Murray, Baritone

David Murray's rich baritone voice, dramatic presence, and versatility as a performer has brought him acclaim from critics and concert audiences throughout the world. Recognized for his steady lyric tone and seamless technique, Mr. Murray has triumphed in many of the great operatic roles. This month's performance marks the third time he has performed with the Newton Symphony. Previously he sang the role of Sharpless in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, and was a soloist in the Opera Gala Evening (1997). Recent operatic roles include: Barnaba in Ponchielli's La Gioconda, Renato in Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera, (Connecticut Concert Opera), Jack Rance in Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West (Boston Academy of Music), and Sharpless in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. Equally at home on the concert stage, David has performed with the Boston Pops, Keith Lockhart and John Williams conducting, The Handel & Haydn Society, The Tokyo Philharmonic, The Telemann Orchestra of Japan, The New Japan Philharmonic, The Boston Academy of Music, Theatre Lyrique d’Europe, Chorus pro Musica, Boston Lyric Opera, The Heritage Chorale, and The Back Bay Chorale, as well as leading roles with Lake George Opera Festival, Central City Opera, Eugene Opera, Connecticut Concert Opera, and The Denver Symphony. David is currently the Publishing Manager for Subito Music Corporation and lives in suburban New Jersey with his wife and two sons.

David has recorded for the Koch, New Albion, Titanic, and CRI record labels.
