![]() Among his most recent successes are debuts with the New Japan Philharmonic and Philharmonic of Tokyo, an acclaimed concert performance of Verdi’s La Traviata in Jordan Hall, and the world premiere and a sold out performance of Chinese classical music in Carnegie Hall. This past season he also appeared as a guest conductor with the Carlos Chávez Symphony and the Chamber Orchestra of the Teatro de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. He will return to conduct the Carlos Chávez Symphony this coming October. Appointed Assistant Conductor of the Handel & Haydn Society by Christopher Hogwood in 1986, Mr. Rink held that position until 1990. With them he conducted notable performances of Messiah and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. He has frequently appeared as a guest conductor with the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Monterrey (Mexico), and has conducted the Adrian (MI) Symphony, the Tallahassee (Florida) Symphony, and the L’Orchestre de Sherbrooke in Quebéc. In 1993 he made his Asian debut conducting concerts in Manila that featured Metropolitan Opera soprano Barbara Kilduff. Recent engagements have included concerts with the L’Orchestre de Fribourg (Switzerland) the Philharmonic Orchestra of Valcea (Rumania), the Nashua Symphony Orchestra (New Hampshire), the Tuscaloosa Symphony (Alabama) and the Polish Baltic State Philharmonic. In 1997 he returned to lead the Polish Baltic State Philharmonic where he was he only American invited to participate in the millennium celebration of the city of Gdansk. In December 1998 he made his Japanese debut in a pair of concerts with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and Telemann Chamber Orchestra in Osaka, and the Filarmónica de Querétaro in Mexico. In November 2000 he led a highly successful performance of Bach’s St. John Passion with the ensemble of Tokyo and in March of 2002 conducted performances of The Magic Flute win the New National Theatre, Tokyo. Mr. Rink studied conducting with Charles Bruck at the Pierre Monteux School and the Hartt School of Music after receiving his B.M. and M.M. degrees from the University of Maryland at College Park. In addition to his directorship of Newton Symphony, Rink is in his fourteenth
season as Music Director of Chorus pro Musica. He also serves as Director
of Orchestral Activities at the Longy School of Music, and is a member of
the music faculty at the University of Massachusetts at Boston. |
