Maurizio Barboro began his studies at the Paganini Conservatory in Genoa and obtained his Diploma with full marks. Later he completed his artistic education at the Academia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, under the guidance of Lya De Barberiis. Winner of numerous piano competitions in Italy, since 1980 Barboro has pursued an intensive concert career in Italy and throughout Europe, Asia and North America, collaborating with many prestigious conductors and orchestras. In 1996 he was appointed artist in residence of the Filharmonica di Stato "Dumitrescu" in Valcea (Romania). Maurizio Barboro made his United States debut in 1999, when he was invited to teach master classes at the Boston Conservatory, the Longy School of Music and the Rivers School. In October 2000 he opened the Berkshire Symphony Orchestra�s season with Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto, and in April 2001 he performed the Shostakovich Second Piano Concerto with the prestigious Filharmonica "Enescu" in Bucharest�s Ateneu Hall. Barboro is also a member of several distinguished chamber music ensembles, including the New Italian Piano Quartet (two pianos, eight hands), and collaborates regularly with the violinist Aiman Musakhodzhaeva and the cellist Dario Destefano. Maurizio Barboro currently holds the title of principal professor of piano at the Ghedini Conservatory in Cuneo and at the International Summer Courses in Bergolo and Arpino. He has taught on the faculties on the universities of Timisoara and Valcea (Romania), the Regional Conservatory of Vendome (France), the Royal School of Music (Gibraltar), and the National Academy of Astana (Kazahkstan) and serves on the jury of several prestigious international competitions. Barboro is also the founder and artistic director of the prestigious Franz Schubert International Competition, artistic director of the Alfredo Casella Music Association, and president of the international competition of the city of Racconigi. Maurizio Barboro has made several recordings of works by Italian composers for the national TV and radio networks in both Western and Eastern Europe. Other notable CD recordings include numerous works for two pianos, eight hands (with the New Italian Piano Quartet), the works of the Italian contemporary composer Mario Panatero, both of the Shostakovich piano concertos (with the Belarus National Philharmonic Orchestra), and the Brahms Sonatas for Piano and Cello. |
