Tenor Mark Evans is acclaimed for the "dramatic incisiveness and focused clarity" of his singing. A graduate of Boston University's Opera Institute, he has studied with Elena Nikolaidi, Richard Cassilly and Phyllis Curtin. Along with Fellowships to the Tanglewood and Marlboro festivals, he has also been the recipient of a Career Advancement Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ester B. Kahn Award.
Mr. Evans has appeared with opera companies and orchestras throughout the United States and Canada in repertoire ranging from Bach to Britten. A particular interest of his is the repertoire of the Classical and Romantic periods and he has been noted for insightful interpretations of the works of Schubert and Schumann in a series of recitals at Harvard University for the German Language Department.
Mr. Evans was a member of the voice faculty at Atlantic Union College from 1990 through 1996. Since 1996 he has served as Artist-in-Residence at Framingham State College, where he presents a concert and lecture series on Opera, Music of the 18th Century and Music of the Romanic Era. Mr. Evans recently joined the Board of Directors of Muse, an organization providing singers for elder care and hospice facilities in Massachusetts.
