  MARIA FERRANTE, soprano

Maria Ferrante, soprano, winner of the Mario Lanza vocal competition, has been acclaimed by the Washington Post and the Boston Globe for her glorious voice, excellent interpretations and delightful presence. A soloist in opera, oratorio and recital, she has appeared throughout the U.S., England and Japan. Recent opera appearances include Liù in Puccini's Turandot with Concert Opera Boston at Jordan Hall, and Mimi in Puccini's La Bohème with Raylynmor Opera at the Colonial Theatre, Keene, NH. She has appeared in recital at the Mohawk Trail Concerts, Shelburne Falls, MA with Gilbert Kalish, piano, and Richard Wilbur, our second U.S. Poet Laureate; and at Clark University's Sunday Afternoon Chamber Music Series with pianist Abba Bogin.

Ms. Ferrante's performance of Villa-Lobos' Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 conducted by Bogin and with artists including Seymour Barab and Charles Forbes thrilled New York audiences at New York's Abigail Adams Museum last spring. She appears each year in the BankBoston Showcase Series with Robert J. Lurtsema in Brown Bags for Kids at Mechanics Hall, and has been heard live on three separate occasions on WGBH Boston's "Morning Pro Musica." Ms. Ferrante has toured the Northeast as Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with Opera New England, has been featured as soloist in the world premiere of Daniel Pelzig's Bachianas with the Boston Ballet, and has appeared in recital for the New York Musicians Club at the Kosciuszko Foundation. She has also performed as soloist with the Queens Symphony Orchestra, Orpheus Choir (Hexham, England), and Boston Chamber Ensemble, and at King's Chapel, Boston, the Massachusetts International Festival of the Arts, and the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Washington, DC. Ms. Ferrante has recorded for Afka and Moonlight Discs; her acclaimed CD Christmas in Worcester included works by Charles Callahan and Leonardo Ciampa.

Ms. Ferrante was recently invited to perform lieder for the 250th anniversary of Goethe's birth with harpist Xavier de Maistre of the Vienna Opera at the Goethe Institute of Boston. She performed in the American premiere of Garcia's Tota Pulchra Es Maria. Other recent performances include Brahms's Ein Deutsches Requiem with the Windham Orchestra at the Brattleboro Music Center, Blanche Honegger Moyse, Artistic Director; and excerpts from La Traviata and Carmen with the Nashua Symphony Orchestra and Choral Society. Ms. Ferrante also performed at the Gala Opening of Tuckerman Hall, Worcester, MA; the 10th annual Gala Holiday Concert in Stockbridge; Creative Women III in Provincetown, MA; and the Bennington Chamber Music Festival, VT. Upcoming performances include Desdemona in Verdi's Otello at Jordan Hall with Concert Opera Boston, Schubert's Mass in A-flat with the Pro Arte Orchestra, and soloist at the Worcester Music Festival.
