![]() Baritone Robert Honeysucker is recognized internationally for his brilliant opera, concert and recital performances and for "a voice that possesses great richness and warmth." Honored as 1995 "Musician of the Year" by the Boston Globe's Richard Dyer, he is also a winner of the National Opera Association Artists Competition and a recipient of the New England Opera Club Jacopo Peri Award. Mr. Honeysucker's many operatic roles include the title roles in Don Giovanni, Rigoletto, and Porgy and Bess, as well as Amonasra (Aida), Figaro (Il Barbiere de Siviglia), Sharpless (Madame Butterfly), Count di Luna (Il Trovatore), Renato (Un Ballo in Maschera), Germont (La Traviata), and Ford (Falstaff). He has appeared with Boston Lyric Opera, Sacramento Opera, Utah Opera, Delaware Opera, Opera Company of Boston, Fort Worth Opera, Tulsa Opera, Eugene Opera, and Connecticut Opera. Abroad, Mr Honeysucker has sung numerous roles at the Mercury Theatre in Auckland, New Zealand; created the role of Daedalus in the world premiere of Icarus, by Paul Earls, at Brucknerfest in Linz, Austria; and appeared in a series of opera concerts in the Persian Gulf directed by Cesare Alfieri. He has also performed numerous recitals and concerts in Europe, New Zealand and Australia. Robert Honeysucker appears frequently with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, most recently as soloist in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, in celebration of Seiji Ozawa's twenty-fifth season as BSO Music Director. His appearances with the Boston Pops include the annual July Fourth concert on the Esplanade, conducted by John Williams, as well as concerts conducted by Keith Lockhart and Harry Ellis Dickson. Other orchestral engagements have included Charles Ives's General William Booth Enters into Heaven with the Pittsburgh Symphony, directed by Michael Tilson Thomas, during the inaugural season of the Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts; Aaron Copland's Old American Songs with the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra; and Carmina Burana with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra and with the Omaha Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the St. Louis Symphony, the Portland (ME) Symphony Orchestra, and the Sacramento Symphony Orchestra. Engagements in Japan have featured him as soloist with the Tokyo Symphony in a performance of Handel's Messiah, and with the Telemann Chamber Orchestra in Osaka in a performance of Bach's Christmas Oratorio. Mr Honeysucker has been a member of the Bach Aria Group and Videmus, and is a co-founder of the Jubilee Trio (with Marion Dry and Leslie Amper), which presents American art songs, including those of under-performed African-American composers. His discography includes three Videmus discs: "Music of William Grant Still" (New World), "Watch and Pray" (Koch International) and "More Still" (Cambria). Mr Honeysucker is also featured on the Ongaku and Titanic labels. |
