First season concert features prize winning
pianist Richard Einhorn, The Newton Symphony Orchestra opens its 39th Season on Sunday evening, October 24 th at 7:30pm, at the Rashi School Auditorium, Newton Corner. The program features pianist Richard Einhorn, 2003 Winner of the Boston International Competition for Talented Amateurs, as guest soloist for Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor. Conductor Jeffrey Rink’s program also includes Barber’s First Essay for Orchestra and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8. Born and raised in Montreal, Richard Einhorn started taking piano lessons at age six. During his teenage years, he won first prize for his age group over six consecutive years in the Quebec Music Festival. While majoring in music at Yale, he gave numerous solo as well as chamber music recitals. After one year as a piano major at Yale’s Graduate School of Music, he took a break from his music to pursue a career in medicine. During the past seven years, Dr. Einhorn has resumed piano studies. He has given benefit recitals to support the North Shore local schools and is an active member of the Boston Piano Amateur’s Association. In June 2003 he was the Grand Prize Winner among 40 contestants from the U.S. and Europe in the Boston International Piano Competition for Exceptional Amateurs where he was the Grand Prize Winner among 40 contestants from the U.S. and Europe. He performed in the Austrian Embassy in Washington at an Amateurs’ Competition Winners concert in April and played at Boston Conservatory last June. Newton Symphony concerts are presented at Rashi School Auditorium, 15 Walnut Park, Newton Corner. Tickets are $25 and $30, with a $5 discount for students and seniors over 65.
