  January Concert: Puccini's La Bohème

NSO to perform Puccini's La Bohème January 11

Continuing the success of past years in concert opera productions, the Newton Symphony Orchestra will present Puccini's La Bohème on Sunday, January 11, 2004 at 7:00 p.m.

Considered by many to be Puccini's favorite opera, the music of La Bohème is filled with the playfulness of friends and the bittersweet love between a struggling poet, Rudolfo, and the consumptive Mimi. Under the baton of Music Director Jeffrey Rink, the cast includes New York City Opera stars Adina Aaron as Mimi and Benjamin Warshawski as Rudolfo; Jessica Cooper as Musetta and Lee Poulis as Marcello; David Cushing as Colline and Sumner Thompson as Schaunard. The cast will also be joined by Chorus pro Musica , and New England Conservatory Children's Chorus.

The Newton Symphony Orchestra has provided innovative programming and superb music to the Greater Boston communities for almost 40 years. NSO's reputation as a world-class orchestra has brought invitations to perform at Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center in recent years. Performances of Madame Butterfly (2003) and Tosca (2002) have also established Maestro Rink's reputation as an opera conductor to be reckoned with. As on critic commented, It is impossible not to be carried away when the performance [of Tosca] is as good as the one the Newton Symphony fielded

Soprano Adina Aaron received her Master of Music degree in Opera Performance from the Boston Conservatory. She gained international recognition as Clara in New York City Opera's Porgy and Bess , which was telecasted in 2002 on PBS's Live from Lincoln Center throughout the United States and Canada.

Tenor Ben Warschawski is no stranger to NSO audience. He performed as Pinkerton in NSO's production of Madame Butterfly last year. His career highlights include major roles at the New York City Opera, David Israel's El Yerushalayim with the American Symphony Orchestra at Lincoln Center, and a Holiday Concert at the White House for President and Mrs. Clinton.

Newton Symphony concerts are presented at Rashi School Auditorium, 15 Walnut Park, Newton Corner. There will be a pre-concert lecture presented by Steven Ledbetter at 6:00 p.m.

Tickets for La Bohème are $40 and $30. For tickets and further information, browse this web site or contact the NSO office at 617-965-2555, or by e-mail: [email protected]
